The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, participated in the Socio-Ecological Forum 2022 in Skopje, in which case he was also part of the discussion panel on the topic “A fair transformation for Europe self-sufficient in energy”.

In his speech, Prime Minister Kurti singled out two reasons why today’s discussion is important: the first, because overcoming any crisis today requires cooperation and solidarity, and the second because, in particular, the energy crisis can only be overcome if we seek solutions for the region and not only for ourselves.

He said that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo is committed to laying the foundations of the future of the energy sector in the country, which will increasingly provide security in electricity supply, clean energy, energy efficiency, active participation of citizens and support for vulnerable groups.

Regarding the strengthening of regional cooperation and the functioning of the market, Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that Kosovo is committed to the implementation of all the obligations of the Energy Community Treaty for the creation of a free, integrated and competitive electricity market. “We intend to integrate Kosovo’s energy into the regional and pan-European market – market integration with the Republic of Albania is a high priority and particularly important for our country. The most important first step here will be the full operation of the Albanian Energy Exchange (ALPEX), which is expected at the beginning of 2023″, he said..

The Government of the Republic of Kosovo, Prime Minister Kurti further added, aims to protect citizens from price increases, but also to ensure that there are incentives for them to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy demand. In addition to the current assistance to citizens and the country’s economy through the Economic Revival Package and the one to deal with inflation, Prime Minister Kurti also spoke about plans for the future and instruments in the energy sector.

From next year, we are accelerating investments in energy efficiency in the housing sector, renewable generation projects and sustainable central heating systems. In the near future measures such as insulating houses, installing solar panels, buying efficient household appliances or efficient heating systems should be possible for a wide range of the population, and at the beginning of next year we will open the first auctions with the aim of building 1400 MW of wind and solar capacity by 2031 and increasing the share of renewable resources to 35%”, said Prime Minister Kurti at the end of his speech.
