Under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, the fourth meeting of the Executive Commission for Health was held last night. During this meeting, the first results of the Commission’s work, as well as the increased commitment of its members, were evidenced.

Prime Minister Kurti, in his introductory speech, emphasized the two administrative guidelines that have been approved since the establishment of the Commission. The first instruction, on the Licensing of foreign health professionals, aims to facilitate the arrival of diaspora and foreign health professionals, to complete the provision of services that are missing or at risk of not being provided in public health institutions. Whereas, the second instruction, for the Simplification of procedures for the registration and import of medicinal products, which do not have authorized parallels in the Republic of Kosovo, will ensure that drugs without a quality guarantee will not be able to be entered into competition for announced tenders from public health institutions.

Regarding the first instruction, the acting minister of the Ministry of Health, dr. Dafina Gexha Bunjaku spoke about the steps taken to ensure the fastest arrival of health professionals from abroad. Immediately after the entry into force of the instruction, the Ministry of Health has appointed the Board for the licensing of foreign professionals, which has drafted and approved a new work regulation. Furthemore, the Ministry, in cooperation with the University Hospital and Clinic Service, has started compiling the specific needs of public institutions. Thanks to these quick actions, it is expected that during this year and next year, the first professionals from the diaspora and those from abroad will come within the framework of this initiative.

Speaking about another priority identified by the Commission, the Deputy Minister of Health, dr. Arsim Berisha, emphasized the measures taken to improve services for the citizens of Kosovo. With this aim, during the following weeks, the Ministry of Health and the Health Inspectorate will continue their close cooperation, increasing inspections in health institutions.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that the steps taken so far are only part of the journey towards deep reforms in the health sector. He also took the opportunity to thank the former minister, dr. Rifat Latifi, for serving for 10 months at the head of the Ministry of Health, as well as the acting minister, dr. Dafina Gexha Bunjaku, for her willingness to lead this important ministry.
