Prishtina, 7 September 2022

On the occasion of the start of the piloting of dual education, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, visited the vocational school “Shtjefën Gjeçovi” in Prishtina and congratulated them on the initiative.

This initiative aims to close the skills gap by preparing cadres with appropriate skills that respond to market requirements, and was initiated by MESTI with the support of the Besa foundation and in cooperation with representatives of local enterprises and donors.

Dual education has started to be piloted for the first time from this school year 2022/2023 with five classes of 10th grade students, in the profiles: hairdresser, cook, hotel hospitality assistant and mason. Unlike the previous model, from this school year, young people will have the opportunity, during the three years of schooling, to spend more than half of their time in real workplaces.

During the visit to the “Shtjefën Gjeçovi” Competence Centre and the implementing partner business, the key role of education and professional training in the sustainable economic growth and development of Kosovo was emphasized.

Institutional cooperation between the Vocational Education and Training system and the private sector was assessed as a necessary prerequisite for a successful dual education system. It was emphasized that in the case of Kosovo, a supporting factor in the transformation of VET is the inclusion of emigrants, who bring experiences from German-speaking countries to adapt them to our context.
