Prishtina, 2 August 2022

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosova, Albin Kurti, held a telephone conversation today with the Secretary General of NATO, Mr. Jens Stoltenberg.

Prime Minister Kurti informed Secretary General Stoltenberg that the citizens of Kosovo have been well informed about the upcoming measures, that the measures are fully in accordance with the laws and the Constitution of Kosova, and that their implementation has been coordinated with the international community.

Under the new measure of border crossing at the border crossings of Kosovo, on 1 August, until 18:00, 2521 citizens with identification documents from Serbia had passed through. They waited an average of only 20 seconds for this new procedure, as everything has been digitalised by Kosovo’s institutions. The same procedure at Serbian border crossing points takes from 10 minutes to over an hour.

Prime Minister Kurti informed Secretary General Stoltenberg that the media controlled by the Government of Serbia have implemented a disinformation campaign over the last month, trying to build a false and negative narrative about these upcoming measures. It has already been proven that these disinformation campaigns are being helped by the Russian state, in an attempt to destabilize the Balkans.

Mr. Stoltenberg assured Prime Minister Kurti of the commitment and cooperation of NATO and KFOR to maintain peace and stability in Kosovo and the region.
