During his visit to New York as part of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, met with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The meeting focused on the partnership between Kosovo and the IMF to date and the opportunities ahead. The Prime Minister emphasized that the reform agenda aims to create better jobs, particularly for young people and women, through increased productivity, investment and exports, as well as higher labour force participation. In this regard, he said that a priority for the Government remains expanding our SuperPuna programme for women, as well as continuing and improving the dual education system. He added that this year Kosovo recorded economic growth of 5.4% in the first quarter and 4.1% in the second quarter.
Prime Minister Kurti and Managing Director Georgieva also discussed the challenges facing countries around the world, including rising oil prices and the energy crisis, as well as the mechanisms and measures needed to address these challenges.
Prime Minister Kurti thanked Managing Director Georgieva for the continued cooperation with the IMF, noting the Government’s objectives of further deepening and diversifying this cooperation during the new term.
