Prime Minister Kurti Talks with Chancellor Merz

Montenegro, 22 October 2026

On the sidelines of the 13th Berlin Process Summit in Montenegro, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, talked with German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Prime Minister Kurti’s full statement:

Today, at the 13th Berlin Process Summit, which comes shortly after the Bundestag’s decision for German soldiers to remain in Kosovo as part of KFOR, I talked with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who congratulated me on my new mandate.

With the launch of this initiative in 2014, Germany created a platform where the six Western Balkan countries work together and are treated as equals.

Through this process, we have signed agreements on travel using identity cards and the recognition of diplomas, and we have implemented them all. Everyone must do the same, because no one can hold the region hostage.

Direct investment from Germany in Kosovo amounts to around €1.5 billion, 62% of which has come in the last five years alone. There remains significant potential in industry, energy, transport, ICT and vocational education, and next week Prishtina will host the third German-Kosovar Economic Forum.

Germany is part of our European future. Thank you, Chancellor Merz!
