Prishtina, 21 April 2026
Today, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, received the Acting Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Eva Palatova.
During the meeting, Ms. Palatova handed over to Prime Minister Kurti the final report of the EU Election Expert Mission on the recent local and parliamentary elections.
The two discussed the electoral process of 28 December, which once again demonstrated that Kosovo organizes free and fair elections in line with European standards.
Prime Minister Kurti commended the mission’s engagement and emphasized the Government’s readiness to implement its recommendations.
He also stressed the need for a proactive approach to disinformation and foreign interference in the information space. Fake news, fabricated polls, unverified statements, and visually manipulated materials were among the most common forms of disinformation, with the potential to influence public perception and trust in the electoral process.
Free and fair elections are at the core of the first cluster of EU negotiation chapters and the Copenhagen political criteria. Through free and fair elections, Kosovo has consistently and verifiably met these criteria.
Therefore, Prime Minister Kurti requested that the positive findings of the observation mission be clearly reflected in the European Commission’s Country Report for 2026.
