The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, met with the Chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Bedri Hamza, one day after the first-instance verdict was announced by the Specialist Chambers in The Hague regarding four former KLA leaders: Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi, and Jakup Krasniqi.
Deeming the verdict unjust, severe, and far-reaching in its consequences, Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that it must be overturned in a positive direction during the appeal process. Kurti and Hamza shared their views and impressions, and discussed the paths and methods to be pursued in order to rectify yesterday’s decision.
Prime Minister Kurti and Chairman Hamza pledged to maintain regular and direct communication regarding matters of public, state, and national interest.
The resistance of our people and the liberation struggle were not only just but also essential on the path to freedom and independence. The Kosovo Liberation Army was the Albanians’ organizational response to an oppressive state regime—that of Milošević’s Serbia within Yugoslavia—whose crimes are well-documented: ranging from systematic repression to apartheid, and from the denial of fundamental human and civil rights to ethnic cleansing and genocide.
