On the Anniversary of the Disappearance of Professor Ukshin Hoti, Acting Prime Minister Kurti Visited the House Museum in Krushë e Madhe

Krushë e Madhe, 16 May 2026

The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by Minister Andin Hoti, visited the House Museum in Krushë e Madhe on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the disappearance of Professor Ukshin Hoti.

Remembering Professor Hoti and his work, Acting Prime Minister Kurti said that he was an extraordinarily brilliant mind not only among Albanians, because his political theories carry universal value.

“With great sorrow and pain, we remember the day when exactly 27 years ago Professor Ukshin Hoti was released from Dubrava Prison, where he was being held as a prisoner of war, having initially been a political prisoner, only to then be forcibly disappeared, and to this day we still know nothing about him,” he emphasized.

Acting Prime Minister Kurti stressed that Ukshin Hoti’s works will enter a new phase of rereading following the decision of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo for their publication.

Full Speech by Acting Prime Minister Kurti:

We are here at the House Museum in Krushë e Madhe, the birthplace of Professor Ukshin Hoti, of Uncle Ukë. An extraordinarily brilliant Albanian mind, and not only Albanian, because his political theories have universal value and will undoubtedly be read and studied by other peoples as well.

These are theories that assign a decisive role to the will of the people; theories that show how the democratic republic is the best political system; and theories that encourage the emancipation and liberation of peoples everywhere.

Today, on 16 May, with great sorrow and pain we remember the day when exactly 27 years ago Professor Ukshin Hoti was released from Dubrava Prison, where he was being held as a prisoner of war, having initially been a political prisoner, only to then be forcibly disappeared, and to this day we still know nothing about him.

However, Professor Ukshin left us his body of work, which must be reread. It is not enough merely to read it once — only rereading is true reading, whereas reading alone is not reading. And this rereading of Ukshin Hoti’s work will undoubtedly enter a new phase with the publication of his works, for which we have taken a decision in the Government of the Republic of Kosovo. Material is currently being collected from Belgrade and Zagreb all the way to Harvard, where Professor Ukshin Hoti studied, worked and wrote.

And when we come here to the House Museum and see his photographs, some of them for the first time, they awaken many mixed emotions within us. On the one hand, deep sorrow, because how wonderful it would have been to have him alive, active and present among us. But on the other hand, pride as well, because we are fortunate to have had him, and he undoubtedly continues to illuminate the path ahead for us, just like the other national renaissance figures of our nation.

Glory to Professor Ukshin Hoti and to all the martyrs and fallen heroes of the Albanian nation!
