Acting Prime Minister Kurti held a bilateral meeting with the Chancellor of Austria, Stocker

As part of his official visit to Vienna, the Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, was received in a bilateral meeting by the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Austria, Christian Stocker.

Acting Prime Minister Kurti expressed gratitude for Austria’s continued support for Kosovo since the 1990s, then in the state building and on the European path, as well as for its contribution within KFOR.

While appreciating Austria’s support for Kosovo expressed at the Committee of Ministers in Chisinau in May 2026, Acting Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that one of the highest priorities of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo remains membership in the Council of Europe. He underlined the importance of continued support from Austria and its role in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Acting Prime Minister Kurti said that he welcomes Chancellor Stocker’s statement in Tivat, that the European Union is not complete, secure and sustainable without the Western Balkans. After stating that the Republic of Kosovo is determined, engaged and committed to its path to membership, Acting Prime Minister Kurti spoke about the importance of the EU responding by granting candidate country status and opening negotiations.

The meeting discussed the deepening of bilateral relations between Kosovo and Austria, with particular emphasis on economic and trade cooperation, investments and the important role of the diaspora, energy and digital transformation. Meanwhile, security, defense and regional cooperation were also discussed.

Acting Prime Minister Kurti congratulated Austria on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2027-2028, while accepting congratulations on its victory in the early parliamentary elections of June 7.
