The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, on the margins of the European Political Community Summit, held a meeting with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and at the same time Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas.
During the meeting, the political situation in the region as well as security issues were discussed, in an increasingly interconnected context of international challenges. Acting Prime Minister Kurti emphasized the importance of alignment with the European Union in addressing these challenges and in advancing the European integration of the Republic of Kosovo.
In this regard, Acting Prime Minister Kurti reaffirmed Kosovo’s commitment to the reform agenda and its request to obtain EU candidate status, underscoring the country’s progress and the need for fair, merit-based treatment.
They also discussed recent political developments in the country, including the implementation of the Law on Foreigners and the agreement reached on 14 March, which was assessed as a new and positive momentum for the way forward.
The meeting also addressed the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as the issue of Albanians in Presheva Valley (Presheva, Medvegjë, and Bujanoc), where Acting Prime Minister Kurti raised concerns regarding the passive deregistration of addresses and the inability to provide financial support to the Valley by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.
The meeting was held in a constructive spirit and served for an open exchange of views on topics of mutual interest, reaffirming the importance of continued close communication and strong cooperation between the state institutions of Kosovo and the European Union.
