Prishtina, 7 May 2026
The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, received Nicole Epting, Regional Representative of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for Central Europe.
The meeting discussed issues related to refugees, internally displaced persons, and stateless persons, as well as institutional and international responsibility in protecting their rights and dignity.
Acting Prime Minister Kurti informed Representative Epting about the policies and programs of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, implemented by the relevant ministries, which address the needs and rights of these categories, including housing, social support, and access to public services.
During the discussion, it was emphasized that the handling of these issues must always be guided by the principles of human rights and humanitarian solidarity, placing people and their dignity at the center of public policies and institutional engagement.
At the end of the meeting, the issue of persons forcibly disappeared during the war in Kosovo was also discussed. Acting Prime Minister Kurti stated that 1,565 persons remain forcibly disappeared from the last war and, in this regard, stressed the need for the full implementation of the Declaration on Missing Persons agreed in Brussels. He underlined that real progress in this process requires the opening of archives by Serbia, including those of the 38th Motorized Brigade of the Yugoslav Army, which continue to remain classified by the authorities in Serbia until 2044.
