The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, received the Director for Enlargement and Neighborhood of the European Union for the Western Balkans, Valentina Superti, in a meeting on her first visit to the country.
After stating that the European Union is a major contributor to development, through various instruments, Acting Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that membership in the EU is the goal and future of Kosovo. He added that with the support of the European Union, Kosovo has turned into an inclusive democracy that promotes European values, which is also proven by the great support for the EU.
In this context, the Prime Minister emphasized that the will of the people of Kosovo for membership must be responded to with a will for acceptance by the European Union, emphasizing the importance of granting candidate country status and opening accession negotiations.
Acting Prime Minister Kurti said that the Republic of Kosovo leads in the indices measuring the rule of law, the fight against corruption, political rights, civil liberties, as well as in the election indices. He also underlined the continuous progress in fulfilling European reforms, full alignment with the foreign and security policy of the European Union, as well as economic development.
In addition to actions and reforms in the framework of EU membership, the Prime Minister also spoke about regional cooperation and the importance of implementing agreements reached in the Berlin Process, with emphasis on the agreement on free movement with identity cards that Bosnia and Herzegovina has not yet ratified, and on the one on the recognition of diplomas.
