Prishtina, 21 May 2026
The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, participated in the presentation of the conceptual design project for the renovation and expansion of the Student Center, as part of the preparations for the Mediterranean Games 2030.
The renovation, expansion, and modernization of strategic educational and sports infrastructure in Prishtina is one of the key projects within the framework of cooperation between Kosovo and France, through the French Development Agency (AFD), for the Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games.
“You will have our support, because our goal is to create conditions both for studying and for accommodation for our students. Going forward, we will also double both the scholarship budget and the number of scholarships for students. At the same time, we aim to use the Mediterranean Games 2030 to fully upgrade the university campus with additional capacities, modern equipment, and suitable living conditions. And I was very pleased when I saw the presentation of the project,” said Acting Prime Minister Kurti.
According to the project, the Student Center development foresees: expanding accommodation capacities to 4,500 beds; full renovation of the existing dormitories; full renovation of the “1 Tetori” sports hall; renovation of the student dining hall; construction of three new dormitory buildings; construction of a multifunctional hall; construction of a semi-Olympic swimming pool; and the addition of other complementary educational, sports, recreational, and entertainment facilities.
The aim is to transform the Student Center of the University of Prishtina, which during the Mediterranean Games will serve as the “Athletes’ Village,” and afterward remain a long-term investment serving students and higher education in Kosovo.
Statement by Acting Prime Minister Kurti:
Thank you all. I know that people enjoy the fruits of your work, but the efforts, commitment, difficulties, obstacles, and challenges that you overcome together are not always seen or recognized.
I wish you much success. You will have our support, because our goal is to create conditions both for studying and for accommodation for our students.
Going forward, we will also double both the scholarship budget and the number of scholarships for students. At the same time, we aim to use the Mediterranean Games 2030 to fully upgrade the university campus with additional capacities, modern equipment, and suitable living conditions. And I was very pleased when I saw the presentation of the project.
Now we must implement it as quickly as possible, and on this occasion, in addition to the Ministry of Sports and Youth and the Ministry of Education and Science, I would also like to thank the French Development Agency, which is helping us prepare as best as possible for the year 2030. In fact, the impact does not end in 2030, because all the facilities and supporting infrastructure that will be built or renovated will remain for all our activities even after the Mediterranean Games 2030 have concluded.
Once again, thank you for your contribution, and I wish you health and success!
