The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, began his meetings in the United States of America with Congressman Keith Self, a member of the Republican Party, whom he welcomed at the premises of the Consulate of the Republic of Kosovo in New York.
Congressman Self is a strong supporter of the Republic of Kosovo. Together, they discussed bilateral relations and cooperation between Kosovo and the United States, particularly in the field of defense and security, as well as the active role and continuous contribution of the Albanian diaspora in the U.S.
The Prime Minister informed Congressman Self about the investments made in strengthening the professional and operational capabilities of the Kosovo Security Force, including equipment and armaments from the United States, as a direct result of bilateral defense cooperation. Among other things, he highlighted the government’s decisions on the reception and temporary relocation from the U.S. of third-country nationals, the recent removal of customs duties on all products originating from the U.S., as well as the continuation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact program for Kosovo by the new U.S. administration, as a clear expression and proof of reliable partnership.
During the meeting, the role and importance of the Albanian diaspora in the U.S. was also emphasized in strengthening ties between the two countries and enhancing cooperation in the private sector through the facilitation of foreign direct investment.
The Prime Minister invited Congressman Self to visit Kosovo and thanked him for his positions and public support toward Kosovo and its membership in NATO and other Euro-Atlantic structures, while underlining the interest and readiness of the Republic of Kosovo and its institutions for even closer cooperation with our friends in Congress and with the U.S. government in promoting the shared values and interests of both countries.
Prime Minister Kurti is staying in New York for meetings within the framework of the High-Level Week of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
