Prishtina, 16 April, 2026

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, received the future Swiss MP of Albanian origin, Arbër Bullakaj, who is expected to begin his mandate at the end of this month.

Prime Minister Kurti thanked Bullakaj for the visit and congratulated him on his election as a member of the Swiss federal parliament, becoming only the second person with roots from Kosovo, after MP Islam Alijaj, to win a mandate in this institution.

Originally from Suhareka, who moved to Switzerland in the 1990s, Arbër Bullakaj has been active in Swiss politics for more than 20 years. He is a member of the federal council of the Social Democratic Party (SP), president of the SP Migrante in the canton of St. Gallen and chairman of the Democratic Initiative Committee for the reform of Swiss citizenship.

This initiative, which collected more than 100,000 valid signatures and was submitted to parliament in November 2024, seeks facilitation in the process of obtaining Swiss citizenship.

The meeting discussed the integration and successes of the diaspora in Switzerland, as well as their valuable contribution and role in the development of Kosovo.

In the context of political engagement, the two discussed opportunities for concrete cooperation, including advocacy for Kosovo and the creation of cultural, political and economic bridges.
