Viti, 2 September 2026
The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by Acting Minister of Economy Artane Rizvanolli, attended the inauguration of the energy efficiency investments carried out at the “28 Nëntori” (“28 November”) Lower Secondary School in the Municipality of Viti.
In addition to energy savings, Prime Minister Kurti said that the investment, worth approximately €118,000, would provide better and more suitable conditions for students and teachers.
“This is one of five facilities renovated in Viti under the Government’s agreement with the municipalities and the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund. Under the scheme as a whole, the Government is investing €3.8 million in the energy renovation of 13 public facilities in four municipalities: Viti, Podujevë, Lipjan and Shtime. These 13 facilities are being added to the 125 facilities previously renovated in 21 municipalities,” said the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Kurti expressed the Government’s unwavering support for teachers and students in ensuring better conditions, as well as quality education, and once again wished them a successful new school year.
Full Statement by Acting Prime Minister Kurti:
We are here in front of the “28 Nëntori” (“28 November”) School in the Municipality of Viti, together with the Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, the school’s Director, Sherif Neziri, the official of the Municipal Education Directorate of Viti, Xhevdet Llulleci, and the Director of the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund, Njomza Hoxha, on the occasion of the installation of energy efficiency measures at this school, which save energy, keep the air clean and also warm during freezing winter weather, while keeping it cool during the heat of summer.
The teachers and students of this school, and beyond, will have the Government of the Republic of Kosovo’s unwavering support for energy efficiency, as well as for quality education.
We have invested around €118,000 in energy efficiency at this school. The idea is for temperature, lighting, air quality, windows and the central-heating boiler to all form a system that provides the most dignified and suitable conditions possible for both the teachers who work here and the students who study here.
This is in addition to the provision of textbooks and learning materials for students from first through ninth grade, as well as child allowances for around 400,000 children in our Republic.
We are determined to build as comprehensive a pathway as possible from school to higher education and employment. As you know, higher education is now free of charge in Kosovo, while students have been a particular focus of ours. Around 18,000 students received scholarships over the past five years, of which more than half, or around 9,600, were merit-based scholarships for students with a grade point average above 9.0, while around 7,300 scholarships were awarded to students in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, accounting for around 40 percent of all scholarships.
At schools, we are also developing the “Art in Schools and Sport in Schools” programme, because we should not prepare students merely to take an exam, but to develop their knowledge, talent and critical thinking, as well as their health and self-confidence.
This is one of five facilities renovated in Viti under the Government’s agreement with the municipalities and the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund.
Under the scheme as a whole, the Government is investing €3.8 million in the energy renovation of 13 public facilities in four municipalities: Viti, Podujevë, Lipjan and Shtime. These 13 facilities are being added to the 125 facilities previously renovated in 21 municipalities.
We have now told the students, teachers and the respected school director that we will always be there to support them, but following the renovation of the building, its preservation also depends on all of you, and on all of us.
Energy savings begin with good insulation, but continue with daily care.
We wish the school director, teachers, the Municipal Education Directorate here in Viti, and all students and their parents a successful school year filled with health, knowledge and great success.
Thank you for your hospitality, and may you enjoy the renovated school!
