Prekaz, 28 November 2024
Following the official ceremony commemorating the 112th anniversary of Albania’s Declaration of Independence, held in Vlora, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, along with members of the government cabinet and deputies of the Assembly, visited Prekaz to honor and pay tribute at the “Adem Jashari” Memorial Complex in Prekaz.
November 28, alongside being the day of Albania’s Declaration of Independence, also marks the birthday of the legendary Commander Adem Jashari and the public emergence of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
Prime Minister Kurti’s full statement after the tribute:
“We came from Vlora to Prekaz because November 28 began with Skanderbeg in Kruje, continued with Ismail Qemali in Vlora, and most recently, with the liberation war, with Adem Jashari and the Jashari family here in Prekaz, the capital of Albanian uprisings.
November 28 stands as a cornerstone in history, in the collective awareness and national identity of Albanians everywhere. Here in Prekaz, people have come from all the regions where Albanians live and inhabit them always in an indigenous way in the Balkans, but also from our diaspora, to remember and commemorate and recall that our flag is red because a lot of blood has been shed for freedom and independence, however, the black eagle in the middle is because we are a proud nation like the double-headed eagle.
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all Albanians wherever they are on the occasion of Albania’s Independence Day, the day of the Albanian national flag, while mentioning, in addition to Prekaz, Vlora, and Kruja, also Llausha, where in 1997 Rexhep Selimi, Muja Krasniqi, and Daut Haradinaj publicly proclaimed the Kosovo Liberation Army, which was the bearer of our uprising and the key factor that achieved Kosovo’s liberation in June 1999.
Heartfelt gratitude and deep appreciation to all those who contributed with all they knew and could for freedom, development, democracy, unity, and the prosperity of Albanians, and eternal glory to the martyrs and heroes of our nation from all regions and in all historical epochs.
