The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with President Justina Shiroka Pula, laid fresh flowers and paid tribute at the graves of Afrim Zhitia and Fahri Fazliu, who fell heroically 37 years ago during an unequal armed confrontation with the forces of the Serbian-Yugoslav state.
“In 1989, we had Afrim and Fahri, and five years before them—in the mid-1980s—we had Rexhep Mala and Nuhi Berisha. These were confrontations in which the heroic fall of these intellectual activists and idealistic patriots served to raise the consciousness and level of organization among Albanians. This was a decade when Albanians within the former Yugoslavia—who made up one-eighth of the total population—accounted for approximately 80 percent of all former political prisoners,” the Prime Minister stated.
The Prime Minister noted that Afrim and Fahri worked, fought, dedicated themselves, and contributed toward the liberation of Kosovo, the freedom of its people, and their unity and progress. He added that they now rest in peace alongside our other heroes—Ilir Konushevci, Dr. Hazir Mala, Agron Rrahmani, and Bahri Fazliu—and, in their midst, the symbol of Albanian resistance, Bacë Adem Demaçi.
“By exalting our Republic and our nation, defending our territorial integrity, safeguarding state sovereignty, growing the economy and strengthening the army, and serving our citizens and society, we remain true to the ideals of the nation’s martyrs.
Glory!” said Prime Minister Kurti.
