Prime Minister Kurti met with former footballer Xhevdet Muriqi

Pristina, 8 October, 2026

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the Deputy Minister of Sport and Youth, Daulina Osmani, met yesterday with former footballer Xhevdet Muriqi, who was accompanied by MP Bylbyl Sokoli.

Full statement by Prime Minister Kurti:

Yesterday, I welcomed Xhevdet Muriqi to my office—a footballer from the “golden generation” of Prishtina in the 1980s. After 28 years of living and working in Croatia and another 12 in Germany, Xhevdet Muriqi returned to Kosovo last year to settle here. Our heartfelt conversation took us back to the matches and emotions of that era: the packed stadium, the crowd that lived and breathed the game, and the goals we still remember today. We also spoke about his brother, Fadil Muriqi, who lives in Australia, as well as his teammates—Fadil Vokrri, Kujtim Shala, coach Qiro Blažević, and others.

FC Prishtina brought us together—whether in the stadium or gathered around the radio and television. We felt and experienced the club’s victories and successes, as well as its setbacks and losses, as our own. It was football, but it was also a source of pride.

From the matches of the past, we moved on to discuss the games we follow today. We discussed Kosovo’s recent performances, the national team’s progress, and the upcoming matches awaiting us in November.
