Acting Prime Minister Kurti Receives EU Special Envoy for Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Sorensen

Pristina, 24 July 2026

The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, received today in a meeting the European Union Special Envoy for the dialogue on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, Peter Sorensen.

The meeting discussed developments in relation to the European Union, the situation in the Western Balkans region, as well as dialogue issues: the current moment in this process and views on the way forward.

In this context, Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that the Republic of Kosovo adheres to constructive engagement, it works and aims for sustainable peace, Euro-Atlantic security, long-term stability and good European neighborliness.

Responding to Envoy Sorensen regarding the issue raised by him regarding the return of resigned Serbian prosecutors and judges, Prime Minister Kurti said that the Government of Kosovo affirms and insists on constitutionality and legality, equality of citizens and inclusion of all communities. Employees in the institutions of the Republic are and should be from all ethnicities, and be characterized by professional competence and ethical integrity, including the police, judiciary and state prosecution. The collective resignations of four years ago in the north of the Ibar River had precisely the aim of destroying the multiethnic composition of our democratic system.
Now, the way forward is what is determined by the Constitution and laws of Kosovo, which in the case of the judicial system means preserving multiethnicity, but at the same time guaranteeing independence and the quality of justice.

Other current topics from the dialogue process were also addressed at the meeting, emphasizing the importance of respecting and not violating the Brussels Basic Agreement and the Ohrid Implementation Annex.
