Prishtina, 16 April 2026

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, welcomed Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxime Prévot.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Kurti thanked Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Prévot for Belgium’s unwavering and continuous support both before and after the war, as well as before and after independence. He highlighted, in particular, the sheltering of Albanian refugees during the war and Belgium’s contribution to the KFOR forces.

Within the framework of bilateral relations with Belgium—a country where we have a well-integrated diaspora—Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that the Republic of Kosovo is interested in deepening economic cooperation and creating facilitating conditions.

Referring to the agreement on the elimination of double taxation, recently signed on the margins of the Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., Prime Minister Kurti expressed willingness to conclude additional agreements with Belgium in various sectors.

Prime Minister Kurti noted that Brussels, as a triple capital, is an extremely important center for the Republic of Kosovo. He emphasized that membership in the European Union is our strategic priority and that advancing the application—through granting candidate country status—should be the next step in this direction. In addition, he stated that the Republic of Kosovo is clearly determined, engaged, and committed to membership in the Council of Europe and NATO.
