Prizren, 10 June 2025
The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the Acting Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, together with Acting Deputy Prime Minister Emilja Rexhepi, Members of Parliament, and the management of the General Hospital of Prizren, inaugurated the renovated Pulmonology Ward of this hospital.
The total investment amounts to €142,000. Of this amount, 16% was allocated for new beds and inventory, while the remainder went toward infrastructural improvements in the ward.
“This ward will now offer modern conditions and equipment, both for patient treatment and the optimal performance of medical staff, ensuring comfort for patients—from cleanliness, order, lighting, and air conditioning, to the tireless work of the medical staff,” stated Prime Minister Kurti.
Recognized as a key center for the treatment of respiratory diseases and the prevention of tuberculosis, this ward—which next year marks its 80th anniversary—offers daily medical services not only to patients from Prizren but also from Suhareka, Rahovec, Dragash, Sharr, Malishevë, Mamusha, and even Kukës in Albania.
From Prizren’s Hospital, the Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the work, dedication, and commitment of the doctors, nurses, and all hospital staff—especially those in the Pulmonology Ward.
Full Speech of Prime Minister Kurti:
First of all, congratulations to everyone on June 10th, the Day of the League of Prizren!
We are arriving from the League of Prizren complex, where we were joined by the President of the Republic of Albania, His Excellency Bajram Begaj, as well as the Minister of Culture, Hajrulla Çeku, the Mayor of the Municipality, Shaqir Totaj, and others.
We are pleased to be here at the hospital in Prizren, specifically in the Pulmonology Ward—an important center for the treatment of respiratory diseases and tuberculosis prevention. Next year marks the 80th anniversary of this vital institution, not only for the municipality of Prizren but for the entire region, as it also serves Suhareka, Rahovec, Dragash, Sharr, Malishevë, Mamusha, and even Kukës in Albania, from where patients come daily.
The overall renovation here totals an investment of approximately €142,000, of which around 16% went toward new beds and inventory, while the rest was dedicated to infrastructural improvements. There are 38 beds in this ward, with 6 pulmonary specialists and 11 nurses. This year, 130 new beds have arrived, with a total value of €67,000, 38 of which are for the Pulmonology Ward.
Patients here are treated for pneumonia, bronchitis, tuberculosis, other pulmonary pathologies, and even lung cancer.
It’s also worth highlighting that in 2024, a total of 669 patients were hospitalized here, accounting for 5,803 patient-days. In the January–April period this year, 195 patients were hospitalized, totaling 1,289 inpatient days.
From what we saw, the conditions and equipment are modern, both for patient care and for the effective performance of healthcare professionals. And undoubtedly, patients enjoy greater comfort—from cleanliness, order, lighting, and air conditioning, to the tireless work of the medical staff, to whom we are endlessly and wholeheartedly grateful—especially the doctors and nurses of the Prizren Hospital, and in particular, those of the Pulmonology Ward.
Thank you!
