The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the Acting Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, welcomed the Executive Vice President of the well-known U.S. defense industry manufacturer AM General, John Chadbourne, and the company’s Director of International Business Development, Juan Hernandez.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Defense and AM General signed a three-year framework contract that includes Kosovo’s purchase of modern mobile artillery systems, the HUMVEE Hawkeye 105mm Mobile Howitzer System (MHS). The contract also covers spare parts, maintenance, as well as training for operation and maintenance. In addition to the HUMVEE Hawkeyes, under this contract the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) will also be equipped with ambulances, command-and-control vehicles, and other support vehicles, enabling the operationalization of a full artillery battery and the development of direct and indirect fire capabilities for the KSF.
The Prime Minister described the agreement signed yesterday as a very important step in strengthening the defensive capacities of the Kosovo Security Force, emphasizing that these new systems are part of the continuous and increasing investments made in recent years in the field of defense, in cooperation with partner countries of the Republic of Kosovo and NATO member states.
Executive Vice President Chadbourne expressed his satisfaction with the conclusion of the agreement to supply the KSF with HUMVEE Hawkeye systems, describing it as evidence of their commitment to providing advanced solutions for modern military needs.
They also discussed opportunities to expand cooperation, including the possibility of co-production.
