Prishtina, 24 March 2026
On the 27th anniversary of the killing of the distinguished professor, poet and activist Latif Berisha, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, visited his burned and destroyed home in the northern part of Mitrovica.
Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that, in honor of the life, work and resistance of Professor Berisha, as well as of the residents of this area who were killed on their own property even after the war, the house will be turned into a museum.
“Professor Latif Berisha was an important figure in education, culture and national resistance, who through his work and activity left indelible marks on Albanian intellectual life. For decades, he served Albanian education and literature as a university professor, researcher and author of school textbooks, educating entire generations and contributing to the preservation of national identity in difficult times. Even after his violent dismissal from work in the 1990s, he continued to serve education and the national cause,” said Prime Minister Kurti.
On behalf of the family, the professor’s daughter, Fatmire Berisha, thanked Prime Minister Kurti for his commitment and said she was pleased that residents are finally returning to their homes north of the Ibër River.
