New Border Police Station Inaugurated in Izvor, Zveçan

Zveçan, 9 June 2025

The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the Acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, the General Director of the Kosovo Police, Gazmend Hoxha, and the Director of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, Petrit Ajeti, inaugurated the new Border Surveillance Police Station in Izvor, Zveçan – located two kilometers from the border with Serbia.

The new facility represents an investment of €753,000 and covers a total area of approximately 3,980 square meters. The Rapid Border Intervention Unit will operate from this station, focusing on border security and the prevention of illegal activities that threaten the country’s safety.

On the occasion of the inauguration, Prime Minister Kurti stated that police officers will now have dignified working conditions and that their performance in preventing smuggling and other illegal activities will be of high quality. He expressed gratitude to the contractor, the Kosovo Police, the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Local Government Administration for their excellent coordination, which enabled the completion of the works and the inauguration of the facility just six and a half months after the cornerstone was laid on 25 November last year.

Full Speech by Prime Minister Kurti:

Together with colleagues from the Government of the Republic, the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, and the Kosovo Police, we are here in Izvor, Zveçan, at the border crossing with Serbia, which—according to the Brussels agreements—should have been an integrated border crossing. However, since Serbia does not respect what has been agreed upon, it remains unimplemented.

We are here today, six and a half months later, to inaugurate the new Border Surveillance Police Station in Izvor, Zvečan, Republic of Kosovo—an impressive facility which cost around €750,000 and covers a total area of nearly 4,000 square meters. This ensures that police officers have dignified working conditions and that their performance, especially regarding the prevention of smuggling and any other illegal activity, is of high quality.

I thank the economic operator, the Kosovo Police, the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Local Government Administration for this excellent coordination, and here we are today, 9 June, inaugurating a facility whose cornerstone we laid on 25 November last year.
Congratulations to the Kosovo Police and all citizens of the Republic.
