Inauguration of the New Preschool in Koretin, Kamenica

Koretin, Kamenica, October 9, 2025

The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the Acting Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, together with the Mayor of Kamenica Municipality, Kadri Rahimaj, attended the inauguration ceremony of the preschool in the village of Koretin, Kamenica.

The new preschool in this village has the capacity to accommodate around 120 children. It is an investment of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, amounting to 741,000 euros. The construction of the preschool has been both a longstanding need and a long-awaited request of the residents of this area.

On the occasion of the inauguration, Prime Minister Kurti said that the opening of this preschool is of great value for the young children who will take their first steps in education and learning there. Congratulating the residents on the new facility, the Prime Minister thanked Mayor Kadri Rahimaj, who, as the Prime Minister emphasized, has focused his policies on children and mothers, so that children here can have both education and care, while women can have more time and support to re-enter the labor market or continue their studies and professional advancement, which they may have interrupted due to childbirth and childcare responsibilities. He also expressed his full support for Mayor Rahimaj and the Municipality of Kamenica in their plans for full-day schooling.

Minister Nagavci said that they are always united in their commitment to contribute to the welfare of children, students, and the staff who work with them every day. “This preschool is not just a building, not merely a space with modern facilities that meet the highest standards, but an opportunity offered to the children of Koretin to begin their education from an early age—education that is crucial for their further development,” she said. Minister Nagavci also expressed her delight that about 70 children have already been registered to attend this preschool.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Kamenica, Kadri Rahimaj, said that since 1982, when the first preschool in Kamenica was built, there had not been another public preschool for more than four decades. “Through our dedication, our efforts, and the coordination of activities with the relevant ministries—in this case, the Ministry of Education—Kamenica now enjoys two new preschools, which have come as a result of our direct cooperation,” he stated.

Full speech of Prime Minister Kurti:

Dear attendees,
Parents, educators,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Honorable Mayor Rahimaj,
Honorable Minister Nagavci,
Esteemed staff of this preschool, who will serve around 120 children,
Staff of the public kitchen,
Dear citizens of Kamenica,

We are here today to inaugurate a preschool that is of great value for the young children who begin their learning journey even before starting school, thereby taking their first steps in education and development.

Numerous studies have shown that the earlier children enter the education system, the more their intellectual growth and later professional careers progress—faster and better.
I would also like to thank the Mayor of Kamenica, Kadri Rahimaj, without whose insistence and vision things would not have advanced so quickly. It is precisely Mayor Rahimaj who has placed his focus on policies for children and mothers, ensuring that the people here have access to education and care on one hand, while on the other, creating more time for women, who, by bringing their children here, can return to the labor market or continue their education and professional advancement, which they may have interrupted due to childbirth.

The return of women to the labor market, the completion of studies, and career advancement for mothers are all closely linked to the childcare facilities. Here we saw high ceilings, cleanliness and order, modern standards, pleasant lighting, spacious rooms, beds, chairs, and bathrooms. Naturally, the inauguration of this preschool fills our hearts with joy, as it fulfills both the promise and commitment of Mayor Rahimaj, while also responding to a longstanding need and request of parents in this preschool.
In addition to having more preschools and education for children, there will also be another policy of Mayor Kadri Rahimaj, which we, as the Government, will support — the implementation of full-day schooling across the entire municipality of Kamenica. This implies the establishment of a central kitchen, since full-day schooling is not possible without one. Moreover, the meals prepared in the central kitchen will be healthy, designed by nutritionists who approach food scientifically, ensuring balanced ingredients for all age groups.

I wish you all much success in the future and express my deep gratitude for your great dedication — to the Ministry of Education, the Municipality of Kamenica, as well as the director, teachers, educators, and all those who care for children. The Government will always stand by you in this noble mission for those who represent both the present and the future of Kamenica and of the Republic of Kosovo.
