2 June, 2025, Shtime

The acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the acting Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, today participated in the inauguration ceremony of the renovations at the “Albiona Asllani” Kindergarten, in the Municipality of Shtime. There, Prime Minister Kurti and Minister Nagavci were received by the Mayor of Shtime, Qemajl Aliu.

The renovations of the old “Albiona Asllani” Kindergarten reach a total value of 129,845.14 euros, an investment from MESTI. The kindergarten facility has an area of 340 square meters and offers a capacity of 40 beds for children of different age groups. After a period of non-function, the kindergarten is now equipped with modern inventory.

“The “Albiona Asllani” kindergarten is another and additional proof of the joint commitment to caring for the youngest in the most dignified way possible. As institutions that aspire to a just and as developed a society as possible, we are aware that our work begins from the foundations, which in this case are the earliest ages”, said Prime Minister Kurti.

He added that every door we open for a child is another door closed to injustice, inequalities and impossibility. He wished that this kindergarten would be an example for the prevalence of love and care for children as well as for the rights, respect and work in the education of our descendants.

The Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, emphasized that from a single kindergarten that the municipality had this school year, there will be three completed kindergartens, while two others are in process. As a result, in the 2021/22 school year, there was an opportunity to enroll around 120 children in the kindergarten, while this school year the number of children enrolled in early education has reached 209. She further added that the new kindergartens, in addition to being opportunities for children and young mothers, are also new employment opportunities through procedures for recruiting new staff working there, as she congratulated the educators and staff for the good work they do every day.

Mayor Aliu announced that through a transparent competition, 37 children were registered in this kindergarten and eight people, educators and support staff, were employed. He highly praised the cooperation between the municipality and the government in completing the modern infrastructure in early education in this municipality.

At the inauguration of this kindergarten, which bears the name of Albiona Asllani, the only six-month-old martyr of the last war in Kosovo, Prime Minister Kurti thanked the Municipality of Shtime for its role and commitment and the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation for the efficient and productive cooperation.

Full speech of Prime Minister Kurti:

Honorable citizens of the Municipality of Shtime,
Honorable Mayor, Dr. Qemajl Aliu,
Honorable Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ms. Arbërie Nagavci,
Honorable MPs and representatives of institutions,
Honorable Mr. Isak Asllani, family member of Albiona Asllani, a martyr of only six months of the last war in Kosovo, and this kindergarten where we are today, bears her name,
Honorable parents and educational staff,
Honorable attendees,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Sisters and brothers,

The Municipality of Shtime has become a hotbed of good news. Every time I am invited to be here, I know that a good project for the residents is either starting or has already been implemented. Today we have the opportunity to do both, while investments related to the future of children are many times better and more valuable. The “Albiona Asllani” kindergarten is another and additional proof of the shared commitment to caring for the youngest in the most dignified way possible.

As institutions that aspire to a just and developed society, we are aware that our work begins from the foundations, which in this case are the earliest ages.

The American educator and philosopher John Dewey said that “If we teach our children as we taught ourselves yesterday, we deny them the future.” So, we must do more for children than was done for us when we were their age.

And today, with this modern kindergarten of 340 square meters with 40 beds, financed by MEST in the amount of nearly €130,000 and built with the highest standards, we are confirming that we are opening and facilitating the path to the future for children.

I thank the Municipality of Shtime for its role and commitment and the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation for the efficient and productive cooperation.

Every time we open a door for a child, it is another door closed to injustice, inequality and impossibility.

May this kindergarten be an example of the prevalence of love and care for children as well as for the rights, respect and work in the education of our descendants.

Thank you all! Congratulations and enjoy!
