Sedimentation System for Klina’s Drinking Water Supply Inaugurated

Klina, 19 June 2025

Today, the Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Acting Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, the Acting Minister of Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi, along with the Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Water Company “Hidrodrini,” Dri Cena, and the Mayor of Klina Municipality, Zenun Elezaj, inaugurated the newly constructed sedimentation system for the drinking water supply in the Municipality of Klina, whose construction began on 7 November 2023.

With a total value of over one million euros, the sedimentation system project is part of the Performance Program of the Ministry of Local Government Administration. It is a co-financed project between the Ministry of Local Government Administration, the Ministry of Economy, the Municipality of Klina, and the Regional Water Company “Hidrodrini,” and it will provide clean drinking water to 10,000 residents of the municipality.

“This is very good news for the residents of this municipality, which, despite being home to six rivers, has faced significant shortages in drinking water,” said Prime Minister Kurti. He added that this is one way in which the government is collectively repaying its debt to the citizens— the residents of this municipality—so that they may live healthy and dignified lives.

During the inauguration, he emphasized that such infrastructure projects will continue, as infrastructure includes not only road investments, but also water supply, sewage systems, and energy.

On the occasion of this inauguration, the Mayor of Klina, Zenun Elezaj, thanked Ministers Rizvanolli and Krasniqi for their support of the “Hidrodrini” company. He stated that, based on monitoring by the Hidrodrini laboratory and the National Institute of Public Health, they expect to be able to inform citizens in the coming days that they can safely drink water from the taps supplied by the sedimentation system and treatment plant.

Full Speech of Prime Minister Kurti:

Natural water sources require a filtration system to make the water drinkable for residents—and the filtration system requires a sedimentation unit.

Together with the Mayor, Zenun Elezaj, here in Klina, we laid the foundation stone for the construction of the sedimentation system on November 7, 2023, and less than 20 months later, we inaugurated the start of operations, which was technically marked by the activation of three pumps that ensure a total water flow of 84 liters per second, serving 10,000 residents of the Municipality of Klina.

The total investment of over one million euros was made possible through the Ministry of Local Government Administration—Minister Elbert Krasniqi is here with us—the Ministry of Economy—Minister Artane Rizvanolli is also here—the Regional Water Company “Hidrodrini,” and the Municipality of Klina.

This is very good news for the residents of this municipality, which has six rivers, yet has long suffered from a significant lack of drinking water. In this way, together, we are repaying part of the debt we owe to the citizens—the residents of this municipality—so that they may live healthy and dignified lives.

The water quality is good, and it should be emphasized that projects like this one will continue, because for us, infrastructure means not only roads, but also water supply, sewage, and energy systems.

I thank everyone who contributed to this important day, as we celebrate together the construction of the sedimentation system for the water purification system.
