Prime Minister Kurti received the EU Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Peter Sørensen

Prishtina, 6 August 2025

The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Acting Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Kreshnik Ahmeti, welcomed today the European Union Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Peter Sørensen.

The meeting focused on developments in the country, the situation of non-majority communities—especially the Serb non-majority community—and the path toward full implementation of the Brussels Agreement and the Ohrid Annex.

Prime Minister Kurti briefed Special Representative Sørensen on the financial support dedicated over the years to Serb-majority municipalities, with particular emphasis on those in the north of the country, as well as the results of employment policies and the opening of institutions of the Republic of Kosovo in the four northern municipalities. Since April 2024, over 800 citizens of these municipalities have found employment through the government program “Government for Families,” and more than 430 new businesses have been registered in these same municipalities since 1 January last year. The Prime Minister also highlighted the fact that, following the collective resignations of Serb police officers in northern Kosovo in November 2022, around 200 new officers from the Serb non-majority community have joined the Kosovo Police and are serving the country’s citizens without distinction. He added that in the past two years, there have been no recorded incidents between Albanian and Serb employees—whether in private companies where they work together or in public institutions where they jointly serve the residents of these municipalities—thus demonstrating that the approach and actions of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and other state institutions are contributing to the sustainable integration of the Serb non-majority community.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister raised with Special Representative Sørensen his concern over the continuous threatening statements made by Serbian leaders toward Kosovo and the arbitrary arrests of citizens of the Republic of Kosovo by Serbian authorities while in transit through Serbia. He called for a strong and condemnatory response from the international community regarding these actions.
