Prishtina, 24 December 2025
The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, met with representatives of former workers of the privatized enterprise “Ballkani” in Suhareka.
The Chair of the Council of Former Workers, Salih Bytyqi, the Chair of the Union of Former Workers, Elez Haxhiolli, and the Deputy Chair of the Union of Former Workers, Ali Biniqi, thanked Prime Minister Kurti and the Government for the completion of the majority of payments owed to the former workers—namely, 20% of the proceeds from the privatization of the enterprise in 2005—as well as the payments due to them in their capacity as creditors.
They recalled that the enterprise, which at its peak operated in up to four shifts and had no less than 17 hectares of land at its disposal, was privatized in July 2005 for only €1.4 million. They further emphasized that this valuation was significantly underestimated and that the process left behind major ambiguities and widespread dissatisfaction among the former workers.
