Today, the acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the acting Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, welcomed the former President of the Republic of Croatia, Stjepan Mesić.
Prime Minister Kurti expressed deep gratitude for President Mesić’s valuable contribution, who, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, publicly stood in defense of the rights of the Albanians in Kosovo. Later, in his role as President of Croatia, he offered unwavering support for our struggle for freedom and independence.
In this cordial meeting, important moments in the histories of both peoples were recalled, and current developments were discussed, with particular emphasis on the growing cooperation between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Croatia.
The importance of deepening and expanding this cooperation in all fields was underlined—especially in the areas of defense and security. It was noted that the situation in the Balkans today is significantly better than three decades ago, though some issues still persist from that time.
For his contribution to the protection and advancement of the rights of our people during decisive historical periods, President Mesić was recently awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Gjilan.
