Prime Minister Kurti expresses condolences to the Bojku family

Prishtina, 3 December, 2025

The acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has expressed condolences to the Bojku family, following the passing of the professor, activist and first mayor of Free Deçan, Mehmet Bojku.

Through a telegram of condolence, the Prime Minister wrote that Professor Mehmet Bojku was a respected figure in education, a former political prisoner, a leader in the liberation war and the first mayor of the Municipality of Deçan elected in Free Kosovo. “His honor, dedication and sincere service to the country have left an indelible mark on our history and the memory of the citizens,” wrote Prime Minister Kurti.

On behalf of himself and the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, he expressed condolences to the family, friends and associates of the departed, and to all the citizens of Deçan.

Dear Bojku family,

It is with deep sorrow that we received the news of the passing of the professor, activist and first mayor of Free Deçan, Mehmet Bojku.

Professor Mehmet Bojku was a respected figure in education, a former political prisoner, a leader in the liberation war and the first mayor of the Municipality of Deçan elected in free Kosovo. His honor, dedication and sincere service to the country have left an indelible mark on our history and the memory of the citizens.

On my behalf and that of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, I express my most sincere condolences to you, the friends and associates of the departed, and to all the citizens of Deçan.

May the memory of Mehmet Bojku’s life and work be eternal. May he rest in peace.
