Prime Minister Kurti met with international students of the European Master’s Program in Human Rights and Democratization (EMA)

Pristina, 24 January, 2026

The acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, welcomed and met with international students of the European Master’s Program in Human Rights and Democratization (EMA).

In front of the students, he stated that Kosovo is an ideal place to learn about human rights in practice, because our country is a leader in the region when it comes to respecting fundamental rights and freedoms. He added that in the last five years, Kosovo has made great progress in human rights and democratization, as confirmed by international reports and observers.

The Prime Minister emphasized that this is the best time to study human rights, because the field of human rights, both in theory and in practice, is at a crucial point. To maintain their relevance, human rights must adapt to a rapidly changing world, he added. He singled out growing socioeconomic inequality, global warming and the increasing use of artificial intelligence as three of the important challenges, all of which have a lot to do with human rights.

Prime Minister Kurti had attended the graduation ceremony of the European Master’s Program in Human Rights and Democratization (EMA) in 2024, where he was invited as a keynote speaker. The ceremony, which graduated 82 students from 32 countries, was held at the historic Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista building in Venice, Italy. For more than two decades, EMA students have visited Kosovo at the end of their first semester to see first-hand the reality of human rights fieldwork and the wide range of actors required to rebuild post-war society.
