Pristina, 15 July 2025
The full membership of the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA) in the European Quality Assurance Register in Higher Education (EQAR) represents an international recognition of KAA’s tireless and dedicated work in meeting the highest European standards, increasing the credibility and reliability of the higher education system in Kosovo.
Today, the Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, welcomed the Chairperson of the State Quality Council, Prof. Hasnije Ilazi, and the Director General of KAA, Naim Gashi, who congratulated them on this great achievement of the state of Kosovo and the higher education system.
This membership comes after the positive assessment by international ENQA experts and the fulfillment of European quality standards by KAA. The diplomas of our young people will now be recognized faster and easier in Europe and beyond. Our universities will have full access to EU programs and students will benefit from mobility, scholarships and international cooperation.
Kosovo is the first country in the Western Balkans to become a full member of EQAR. This is a victory that strengthens the international image of our country that offers quality higher education with contemporary standards.
KAA was excluded from EQAR in 2018 due to political interference by the PAN government. At that time, EQAR assessed that the Agency had lost the ability to act independently and autonomously.
During our mandate, the government and the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, since the beginning of the mandate, have taken concrete actions to restore trust and international standards, such as: re-functionalizing the State Quality Council; appointing professionals with personal and professional integrity; drafting a law on the Kosovo Accreditation Agency, enabling institutional independence; increasing the budget for the Kosovo Accreditation Agency; approving necessary job positions, thus creating opportunities for professional work; guaranteeing independence in the work of the Board and the Agency; and providing a modern facility with over 1000 square meters for the KAA.
