Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi and ICR Peter Feith met today and mainly discussed the strengthening of the rule of law across the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
The Prime Minister said that the Government’s priority this year will continue to be advancement towards a Euro-Atlantic future for Kosovo, with the aim that Kosovo becomes part of NATO and the European Union as soon as possible.
In mentioning the objective of the Government, and of the international presence in Kosovo, for extending the rule of law and dismantling parallel structures, the Prime Minister mentioned a common commitment towards drafting a joint document with a stronger emphasis on the commitment to establishing the rule of law in all of Kosovo’s territory.
He stated, “The establishment of law and order across all of Kosovo’s territory includes dismantling structures and overcoming barriers created by individuals who don’t recognize the laws and institutions of Kosovo.”
The head of ICO, Peter Feith, said that the International Civilian Office in Kosovo does not recognize parallel institutions, and that it only recognizes the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo. Feith added, “We are continuing our close consultation with the Government on a strategy for the north.”
In referring to the strategy for the north, Feith concluded, “It is a joint product of the Government and ourselves and we will make it known once we have reached our final conclusions. First of all, we will work to establish a framework and the policy aims relating to the north in the short or medium-term, and then we will evaluate their implementation.”
