The agreement specifies that in the future a linear pay structure within education through licensing will replace the current arrangements. The new pay structure will show positive differences in the income of teachers, head teachers, deputy head teachers and professional colleagues in primary and middle education in Kosovo.

The agreement specifies that teachers with professional training at the level of Middle School (Shkolla Normale) will gain a rise of 10 to 22 percent, those with Pedagogical High School training a base pay rise of 19 to 31 percent, teachers with 3- and 4-year university-level training gain a rise of 27 to 39 percent, while teachers with post-university training (Masters degrees or Ph.D.) will gain a rise of 35 to 47 percent.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, said he considered that with the commitment shown so far, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo has demonstrated that its priority is the education of the younger generation in Kosovo.

Prime Minister Thaçi emphasised that by investing in education we invest in our future. “The government demonstrated its commitment to education by investing in new school buildings, through licensing and accrediting educational institutions, through pilot projects for the computerisation of schools, through giving school books free of charge, the recognition of the experience of teachers, and the final step in this commitment is today’s decision to raise teachers’ pay, which will improve the material situation of teachers in Kosovo,” said Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi.

The Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Enver Hoxhaj stressed that the vision of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo is directed at investment to improve the infrastructure of school sites and buildings, the improvement of the material situation of teachers and in securing school texts. “This will secure the increase of quality of education for the younger generation in Kosovo,” said Minister Hoxhaj.
