The First Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Development, and Dialogue, Besnik Bislimi, participated this morning in the event organized by the Embassy of Hungary in Kosovo on the occasion of Hungary taking over the Presidency of the European Union Council. The Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council follows that of Belgium and will chair the EU Council for the next six months.

In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi said that Hungary holds the presidency of the EU Council at a time when we are facing security, economic, social, and environmental challenges that directly impact life and well-being in Europe. He added that the Government of Kosovo especially appreciates the commitment to a stable and merit-based enlargement process, which aims to accelerate the membership of the Western Balkan countries in the EU.

Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi highlighted Kosovo’s commitment to preserving EU values, advancing a sustainable, democratic society with strong human rights protection, and an open market economy. It is worth noting that Kosovo is the first country to present the reform agenda within the Growth Plan for the 2024-2027 period and is consistently demonstrating readiness and the level of preparedness for crucial steps, such as completing the questionnaire and progressing towards candidate status. The Deputy Prime Minister urged for Kosovo’s application to be addressed promptly during the Hungarian presidency.

Our coordinating structures for European Integration are well-prepared to provide a quality and timely response to the questionnaire,” the Deputy Prime Minister expressed.
