Revision of textbooks, the report of the first phase is submitted, which includes the evaluation of the Albanian language and mathematics textbooks of grades 1-9

The Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, has submitted to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, the report of the first phase of the revision of the Albanian language and mathematics texts. Deputy Minister Taulant Kelmendi, representatives of the European Union Office in Kosovo, MESTI officials and members of the Council of Experts for School Programs and Texts – CESPT were also present there.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Kurti said that the topic of this meeting is an essential issue for education, since the revision of texts is crucial for the quality of education and education, where at the request of MESTI, the process of revising 38 texts, 21 of the language Albanian and 17 of mathematics.
The subject of language and mathematics are crucial for the formation of students and for their future careers, he emphasized.

Regarding the prepared report, the prime minister said that it represents a good basis for the correction and advancement of the teaching texts.

“We hope and believe that this report will encourage public debate among teachers, parents, students, education experts and all those who understand that the future of our country depends on raising the quality of education and training,” said the prime minister.

Meanwhile, Minister Nagavci said that the request to start this process was the insistence of MESTI and with the support of the EU, the first phase has been completed, where the Albanian language and mathematics texts have been revised, while they are in the process of starting the revision science texts.

She announced that the Albanian language and mathematics texts were chosen taking into account the results of the PISA test, knowing the results of the students in these subjects.

The minister added that in addition to continuing with the revision of other texts, we also plan to share all these reports with the publishing houses and the authors of the texts and it will be their obligation to improve them based on the findings of which have been done.

Mihaela Singer from the Office of the European Union in Kosovo said that the main purpose of the findings is to improve the quality of school textbooks. Singer spoke about the first phase of the textbook review process and the findings that were included in the Report.

The Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, in cooperation with the Project “KosEd: Support for Primary and Higher Secondary Education”, assisted by the European Union, last year started the process of revising the textbooks of the Albanian language and mathematics in compulsory education (grades 1-9), in order to improve the quality of pre-university education.

The textbook revision process is led by the Council of Experts for Textbooks and Curricula of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), with the help of international and local experts.
