Prishtina, 15 November 2009
Hashim Thaçi, the Prime Minister and the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), voted today at around 9 a.m., at the Faik Konica Elementary School polling station in Prishtina. He was accompanied by his wife, Lumnije Thaçi.
After voting, the Prime Minister made the following remarks:
This is a historic day, the day of the people of Kosovo’s first vote in their independent, sovereign, democratic and multi-ethnic country. We have all sacrificed a great deal for this day. This is an historic event and I strongly believe that we will all be part of a new history of state-building, of building a new democracy and a modern and multi-ethnic society.
Kosovo is the homeland of all its people. I congratulate all citizens and all communities for participating in these elections. Today we prove that our country deserved independence – that our people deserved independence, democratic order and a European perspective.
From today on, a new age will begin of Kosovo’s integration into the European family.
Today is a state holiday for Kosovo; it is a country-wide celebration. Kosovo will be successful.
Thus, it is a day to vote, but it is also a day of celebration. Congratulations and success.
The Prime Minister also thanked all political parties and all Kosovo people for the calm and democratic election campaign.
