During his official visit to the United States of America, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, has had another three important meetings with world statesmen.
Initially, Prime Minister Thaçi met with the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Winston Baldwin Spencer and briefed him on the current political developments in and about Kosovo, with a special focus on the international position of Kosovo following the opinion of the International Court of Justice on the legality of the independence of Kosovo and the UN Resolution.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda expressed his solidarity with the people and the Government of Kosovo and said that he has been closely following the recent developments about Kosovo. We support Kosovo’s engagement in ensuring peace, stability, development and regional cooperation and we will soon make a decision on the recognition of Kosovo in coordination with the Caribbean Community member states.
Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi also met with the Iraqi President, Jalal Talabani.
Acknowledging the role of the Iraqi President in the service of freedom, peace, stability and development in Iraq, Prime Minister Thaçi said that both our people have suffered and sacrificed a lot, therefore the Republic of Kosovo naturally expects Iraq to make a decision to recognize the state of Kosovo in an immediate future thus opening the way for advancing of cooperation between our two countries.
On his part, the Iraqi President, Jalal Talabani, expressed the support of his country for the political developments related to the advancing of the international position of Kosovo. We highly acknowledge your people, the sacrifice you have made. You deserved freedom – said the Iraqi President in the meeting and added that once the Government of Iraq gets constituted, the recognition of the statehood of Kosovo will be amongst the first points on the agenda.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, also had a meeting with the Prime Minister of Andorra, Jaume Bartumeu Cassany, who confirmed Andorran support for the positive developments related to the advancing of the international position of Kosovo. The Prime Minister of Andorra said that the Government he is leading will consider in a near future the decision on the recognition of the state of Kosovo.
