The Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, hosted the Minister of the Interior of the Government of the Republic of Albania, Bujar Nishani, with whom he discussed our two countries’ co-operation in the area of fighting smuggling, organised crime and other negative elements in society.

Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi congratulated Minister Nishani from Albania for the excellent work of the ministry he leads and said how much he valued the co-operation which has been shown in the shared national vision and priorities of the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Albania, in the fight against all kinds of illegal trafficking and organised crime.

“This collaboration has been demonstrated recently and with the successful conclusion of operation codenamed ‘Alberta’ against the illegal trafficking of weapons,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.

“The commitment to collaboration between our countries will only result in peace and regional stability as long as it grows and has the full support of our two governments. This collaboration is supported by the international community and will move forward in all areas of our institutions,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.

The Albanian Minister of the Interior, Bujar Nishani, said that “good collaboration between the two Ministries of the Interior is one of the key weapons and instruments which has brought us both success.”

Minister Nishani emphasised that the agreement signed between the Interior Ministries of our two countries is an additional element which is going to consolidate our collaboration even further.

Also discussed in the meeting was collaboration for control and managements of the borders. It was considered that Kosovo and Albania need open but safe borders in order to achieve the governments’ aim for the citizens of the two countries, to guarantee freedom of movement.
