On the second day of the Crans-Montana Forum, being held in Monte Carlo, the Prime Minister of Kosovo gave a speech on the subject of ‘The outlook for Kosovo after the declaration of independence’.

In his address, while speaking of the declaration of independence Prime Minister Thaçi stressed that this was the only just solution for Kosovo’s political status. “The declaration of independence was done in full co-ordination with the international community, and the independence of Kosovo has brought greater peace and stability to the region. The state of Kosovo has already been recognised internationally by a significant proportion of EU and NATO member states, and is working on the basis of a modern constitution.”

Prime Minister Thaçi went on to thank all those states that have recognised Kosovo’s independence up to this point, and called on the representatives of other states worldwide to recognise, because such an act would be in the interests of long-term peace and stability in the region and more widely.

“The rights of communities are the special focus of Kosovo’s institutions. In line with the Constitution of Kosovo and with the Ahtisaari plan, all communities in Kosovo will have equal rights, and some unique rights have been designed especially for the Serb community, with regard to cultural heritage, religion etc. The object of this arrangement is participation in the institutional life of Kosovo (government, parliament),” Prime Minister Thaçi emphasised.

Kosovo’s economic development and potential were the core of Kosovo Prime Minister Thaçi’s comments. “Kosovo already has the healthy base for an open trading economy and has created sufficient legal infrastructure, facilitating serious investment and economic growth. So every investor should consider Kosovo an ideal place for investment in a range of sectors, especially the sectors of energy, mining, infrastructure, agriculture etc.

The Kosovo Government’s other priority is membership of international financial institutions. This would enable Kosovo to enjoy faster and more stable economic development. The Government of Kosovo has adopted a policy of zero tolerance towards organised crime and corruption. Every investor, from wherever in the world, interested in investing in Kosovo is welcome and will have the full support of the Kosovo Government. The future of Kosovo is already certain – membership of the EU and NATO will bring Kosovo greater peace, stability, economic growth and well-being for her citizens” said Prime Minister Thaçi.

Along with his formal participation in this forum, the Kosovo Prime Minister is having a large number of informal meetings with representatives of a range of states worldwide.
