Prime Minister Thaçi: Building a functioning state, which has the life of its citizens at the centre, we will hold our heads up high before those who have died for the cause

September 28, 2008

Pristina, 28 September 2008

Ladies and gentlemen,

The new calendar of our history is full of important dates.

It is as admirable as it is important to have events which have a civic and liberation focus.

It is enlightening and magnificent, as are those who left their great traces in the turning points in history which they achieved

Ferizaj and the area around it has always been a centre of resistance.

A place from which dedicated patriots and activists have come in all periods of history, especially from 1981 up to the glorious war of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Today, when you are marking the Day of the Fallen, there is no reason not to feel proud, with heads up high, before the names and the works of the fallen.

Their day is being marked for the first time in Free, Independent, Sovereign and Democratic Kosovo.

The Day of the Fallen is being marked in Ferizaj which every day takes on the appearance of an urban environment, with surroundings which develop noticeably as each day passes.

It is symbolic that in the first year of independence, on the Day of the Fallen in Ferizaj, the asphalt road in Jezerc will be inaugurated.

A place of resistance in those hard days.

A place of investment in these better days.

Investment in the road, in the school, in the improvement of citizens’ lives is the best message of respect for those who sacrificed their life for the freedom of our country.

The government of Kosovo today is fully committed to working as responsibly as possible, because its citizens trust the government to build a nation.

The government of the Republic of Kosovo is unswervingly dedicating every cent of its budget to projects with particular relevance to the improvement of infrastructure, building schools, building roads and creating a base for the small and medium economy.

Ladies and gentlemen,

We are working every day as responsibly as possible so that our citizens can see the works of those in government, so that they can be proud and dignified by the work of the institutions they chose.

The government of the Republic of Kosovo is resolute in its fight against corruption, organised crime and all negative elements which can drown the development of the country and weaken Kosovo’s image in the world.

Building a strong legal state, on a healthy foundation, with euro-atlantic prospects, we justify the faith of our citizens.

Building a stable state, with peaceful policies, we justify the help of the friends who helped us in the recent past, and are helping us today, too, in strengthening the independence of our country.

Only in building a functional state, which has the life of its citizens in the centre, can we hold our heads up high before those who died for the cause, before those from all social backgrounds who gave a contribution in blood and sweat for the freedom of Kosovo.

Expressing particular respect for the families of the fallen, the war wounded and the veterans, for the institutions of your municipality, we guarantee them that they will enjoy wide support from central government, in all areas, trusting that they will implement development projects for Ferizaj and its area.

Praise to the Fallen.
