Prime Minister of Republic of Kosova, Hashim Thaçi, received in a meeting Javier Solana, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy

Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosova, Hashim Thaçi, had a meeting today with European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, and discussed with him the new reality created following the declaration of Kosova’s independence. The newly appointed EU Special Representative for Kosova, Pieter Feith and EULEX chief Yves de Kermabon participated in the meeting.

Prime Minister Thaçi reconfirmed the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Kosova, of the institutions and the people of Kosova, to a democratic, indivisible and multiethnic Kosova, that will be home to all its people. The Prime Minister expressed his commitment for even greater engagement to ensure best affirmative action possible for the position of the minorities, in particular of Serbs in an independent Kosova. “The institutions of Kosova have already started the implementation of the document by President Ahtisaari. We will continue with strong determination to ensure that this commitment and our new responsibility in a new Kosova also reflect our determination for a close cooperation with the new EU mission in Kosova,” said Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi.
Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosova, Thaçi, thanked the chief of the EU diplomacy, Solana, for the contribution given to peace and stability in Kosova, for the creation of a new reality and for peace and stability in the region.

The High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy in the European Union, Javier Solana, said he was very happy to be in Kosova and to represent the EU, which has had good cooperation with Kosova and its people in the past, and which will continue in the future.

Mr. Solana stated during the meeting with Mr. Thaçi that the joy and energy he’s seen in the streets of Kosova nowadays will transform into positive energy for the development of the society and protection of the freedoms and the rights of the minority communities living in the country, and also in the fields of economy, security and other, adding further that the EU will be present here, the European perspective is here and that our people will cooperate with the Kosovar institutions in the field of rule of law and economic development.
