Prime Minister meets with former UN special envoy for Kosovo’s status President Martti Ahtisaari

Prime Minister Thaçi has met with former Finnish President, and former UN special envoy for Kosovo’s status, Martti Ahtisaari, during his visit to Finland. The Prime Minister and President Ahtisaari had a “very open and friendly” meeting and they discussed Kosovo’s progress in state-building and its consolidation as an independent state.

Prime Minister Thaçi briefed President Ahtisaari on Kosovo’s progress and stated, “The Government and all Kosovo institutions are living up to their responsibilities to implement all their obligations in the state-building process and in fostering regional peace.”
 

The Prime Minister expressed his high regard for the engagement of all international partners in support of Kosovo and in facilitating the country’s progress towards building an equal, democratic and prosperous society for all of its citizens. 

Former President Martti Ahtisaari expressed his support for Kosovo in its path towards consolidating its independence. He expressed his full conviction that his comprehensive proposal on the settlement of Kosovo’s status was the only alternative for Kosovo and that he continues to be a strong supporter of Kosovo’s independence. 

Prime Minister Thaçi, during the first day of his official visit to Finland, will also meet with Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen and Finnish Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb.
