Prime Minister Kurti’s address at the 214th meeting of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo

July 24, 2024

Prishtina, 24 July, 2024

Dear Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers and Deputy Ministers,
Dear citizens,
Dear Media,

In recent days we have heard a lot of news about the case of citizen Faton Hajrizi. Our institutions have tried their best to continuously transmit official information. Recently, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, we were informed by the Directorate of International Police Cooperation – ILECU of the Kosovo Police that the Serbian authorities, on July 22, 2024, sent the fingerprints of a person. The same marks together with the fingerprints of the citizen of Kosovo, Faton Hajrizi, have been forwarded to the Kosovo Agency for Forensics (KAF), where after comparison by the Kosovo Agency for Forensics, the Directorate of International Police Cooperation has received an answer that these traces belong to the citizen reported as killed. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police of Kosovo have paid more attention to every detail. The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have engaged and informed.

However, clarifying the circumstances from his escape to Serbia until his reported murder requires a local and international investigation. In the meantime, I invite the citizens of our country not to fall prey to the euphoria of heroizing and romanticizing of Faton Hajrizi. A patriot in the Republic of Kosovo, is the sergeant of the Kosovo Police, Afrim Bunjaku, killed in Banjska of Zveçan.
Patriots are the 23 members of the Kosovo Police who fell in the line of duty, who proved their commitment to service to the point of sacrifice. And exactly this week, July 26, for the third year in a row, we mark it as the Memorial Day of Policemen Fallen in the Line of Duty. This date coincides with the death of another patriot of our time, Heroit Enver Zymeri, who was killed in the line of duty in Zubç of Zubin Potok in 2011. Therefore, even today, like every day and every weather, I repeat the call to the responsible bodies for clarifying all these cases and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Today, it has been 10 months since the murder of Afrim Bunjaku in Banjska of Zveçan, in defense of the country’s legality and the integrity of the Republic. In Kosovo, an indictment has not yet been filed against Millan Radoicic and other terrorists of his paramilitary group by our justice system. In Serbia, Radoiciq is free. 10 months were not enough for our prosecution. But it didn’t take you more than 10 hours to interrogate our Minister of Justice, Mrs. Albulena Haxhiu, for a post on Facebook.

Eternal glory belongs to the fallen. But let’s not forget, the responsibility for justice and development, well-being, order and law weighs heavily on the living, and especially the institutions.
Also 14 years ago this week, the International Court of Justice irrevocably stamped the legality of Kosovo’s Declaration of Independence.

The Brussels Basic Agreement of February 27, 2023 is the next moment through which it was possible to materialize the characteristics of the independent state of Kosovo according to the principles of international law on which the Advisory Opinion of the Court of Justice is based, including good neighborliness , the equality of sovereigns, respect for the independence of others, the recognition and protection of territorial integrity, the right of self-determination of peoples and other principles of the Charter of the United Nations Organization.
Strengthening the state of Kosovo and its citizenship in the international arena, we know that it is not an automatic process, but requires time and effort, dedication and courage.

Time, dedication and will are also needed for good internal policies of the country for the benefit of the citizens. From next month, over 400,000 children will receive their increased allowances. It was necessary to first have additions to have then their increase. And we are happy that we have been given the opportunity through the will of our citizens to both start and increase allowances for children who are the present and future of the Republic of Kosovo.

In this meeting, allow me to welcome our beloved emigrants, who have already started to come and energize our cities, and invite them to participate in the organization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, dedicated to the emigrants, our compatriots, on July 30, in “Skënderbeu” Square, which starts at 10:00 and continues until late in the evening, with music, entertainment and information corners. This organization, which is taking place on the 25th anniversary of the country’s liberation, is a sign of gratitude for the valuable contribution of the emigrants at every stage of society and our country.

Thank you!
