Today, marking the third anniversary of the start of the Russian military aggression on Ukraine, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, welcomed to the Government building the Ukrainian journalists living and working in Kosovo as part of the Journalists in Residence (JiR) program supported by the Government, which is implemented by the Kosovo Journalists Association.
The Prime Minister thanked them for the work they are doing in Kosovo, the contribution they are making and the resilience they have shown, while emphasizing that for three years of war, Ukrainians and Ukraine have set a high example of how a people and its state organize and fight for the defense of the homeland, freedom and independence.

The Ukrainian journalists expressed their deep gratitude for the shelter, support and assistance of the institutions of Kosovo, and for the continuous support of the state of Kosovo to Ukraine. They highlighted the hospitality of the people of Kosovo, describing Kosovo as a small country with a big heart and the capital as their second home.

During the conversation, the Prime Minister emphasized that, on this third anniversary of the war, we are hopeful for determination and justice, for peace and freedom.

The Republic of Kosovo has joined the United States of America and other Western allied states in sanctions and other actions, in condemning Russian aggression and in supporting Ukraine’s resistance to defend its independence. As the Government of Kosovo, we have imposed sanctions on the Russian Federation the day after the start of the war, on February 25, 2022, while on May 16, 2022, we imposed other sanctions on Russia and Belarus. On July 4, 2022 and then on March 22, 2023, Kosovo has joined the sanctions packages against Russia, approved by the United States of America and the European Union. On 20 August 2023, Kosovo joined the G7 Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine, adopted in support of Ukraine’s right to defend its institutions and independence.

In addition to the JiR program, the Republic of Kosovo is also a member state of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine led by the United States of America, whose meetings are attended by the Minister of Defense of Kosovo and the Commander of the Kosovo Security Force. Our Kosovo Security Force soldiers, together with the British Armed Forces, have trained Ukrainian military troops within the framework of the “Interflex” operation. Last year, 2024, Kosovo sent two military packages to support the Ukrainian army in its fight against the Russian occupying forces.
