Last time they met in New York, within the High Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly. Today in Pristina, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel.
“We are very grateful and thankful for Luxembourg’s help and support throughout the years in the development and democratization of our country, but also for the contribution to the security sector through KFOR and EULEX. We greatly appreciate the support in the field of health, rule of law and public administration. The aid from Luxembourg to Kosovo is above the average of EU countries in relation to its territory and population. We will never forget your support and contribution”, said Prime Minister Kurti at the beginning of the meeting.
In an open and cordial conversation, they discussed interstate relations, areas of cooperation and the benefits of bilateral agreements that Kosovo and Luxembourg have in various fields. A Memorandum of Understanding was added to the list of cooperation, which was signed yesterday. This Memorandum consists of two funds for support for the private sector with a total value of over 35 million euros. They also discussed the new opportunities for economic cooperation and trade exchanges that in recent years have marked a growth trend and investment opportunities. In relation to the latter, the prime minister singled out the technology and energy fields as sectors with great potential of our country and the appropriate geographical position, the tax system, the professional and multilingual workforce, democratic progress and institutional stability as the advantages offered by Kosovo.
Prime Minister Kurti expressed his gratitude for Luxembourg’s steadfast support for our country’s membership in international organizations, including the Council of Europe, as well as for the valuable contribution of the LuxDev Development Agency. He also congratulated Deputy Prime Minister Bettel for the inauguration of the new facility of the Luxembourg embassy in Kosovo, which was inaugurated last night, describing it as evidence of our strong relations and infrastructure to deepen them even more.
This was the third meeting between Prime Minister Kurti and Mr. Bettel in the last two years. In July last year, Prime Minister Kurti welcomed then Prime Minister Bettel in Pristina, as part of his official visit together with the former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte.
