In the Government Building, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, today welcomed the members of the inter-institutional team for the promotion of the employment of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities, with whom he discussed the work and results of the inter-institutional team so far, but also the challenges with which they have faced on the way.
The inter-institutional team, formed in 2022 by government decision and composed of representatives of central institutions and civil society organizations, has continuously engaged in promoting employment in these communities, achieving positive results. In November last year, this team organized the first annual Open Day at the Kosovo Public Safety Academy for 100 youth from non-majority communities and ensured the participation of 500 youth from these communities in the KSF Day. The purpose of these organizations was to increase the information and interest of non-majority communities to apply to public security institutions. As a result, in the 59th generation of the Police which graduated in April of this year, 20% of the new members were from non-majority communities, of which 17 were Egyptian, Ashkali and Roma; despite only 1 policeman from these communities in the generation of 2022. In general, according to the data of the Employment Agency in 2023 the number of job seekers from these communities who have found work has increased by 1/3 compared to the previous year, so 2022.
This team is also addressing school dropouts from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities. In this regard, in addition to numerous scholarships for students and high school students, in 2022 and 2023 the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation allocated 200,000 euros for learning centers for the children of these communities, while this year it allocated 50,000 more euros.
The Prime Minister congratulated them on their achievements and results and confirmed his and the Government of the Republic of Kosovo’s will and commitment to comprehensive social progress and further advancement of non-majority communities through support and government policies.
